Margarita Höhenrieder was born in Munich. She studied piano with Anna Stadler and Ludwig Hoffmann in Munich as well as with Leon Fleisher in Baltimore/USA.

As the age of 11 she gave her first recital, had her first recording being 13, and early was noticed as prizewinner of several international competition. She was the winner of the first prize at the important BUSONI-Competition in Bozen and this placed her into the list of other BUSONI-prizewinners as for instance Martha Ergerich and Jörg Demus. Her artistic way led her more and more into the big music centers like Berlin, Munich, Paris, Rome, Salzburg, Mexico City, New York.

The repertoire of the artist is wide ranging. Beside Mozart and Beethoven she has a great affinity for Chopin and for the artist couple Clara and Robert Schumann. She was so fascinated by the reciprocal inspiration of both that she recorded their a-Moll piano concerto together on CD at BMG-Sony.

Facing contemporary music, as for instance the works of Harald Genzmer, the pianist is very open-minded. She did the premiere of the concert for piano, trumpet and strings, Genzmer dedicated to her and published it on CD.
